Bring Your Dreams to Life Through Reflection & Goal Setting
Bring Your Dreams to Life Through Reflection & Goal Setting
by Victoria J. Fry, December 11, 2023
The end of the year is the most powerful time to reflect and manifest. I’ve pulled a series of journal prompts that will help you to gain a deeper sense of clarity when it comes to setting goals, many of which are pulled directly from the book Art/Work by Heather Darcy Bhandari and Jonathan Melber.
values
What principles guide your decision making?
What do you consider critical to being a good person or leading a commendable life?
What do you stand for?
Examples: authenticity, boldness, consistency, creativity, empathy, equality, flexibility, generosity, independence, resilience, etc.
Write down 5 values you care most about.
defining success
How do you define success for yourself as an artist?
Has your definition of success evolved or changed?
If so, how?
Before we dive into best practices for getting your work to the show, let’s first reflect on how you’d like your work to be viewed.
showing your art
What is the ideal way for your art to be viewed?
If you had unlimited resources available (physical space, money, assistance) how would you like to display your work?
How does the way you show your work impact the viewer’s experience?
COMMUNITY
“There are many ways to be an artist and many definitions of success. As you chart your path, remember that your greatest resource is your community: the one that happens to be around you, as well as the communities you join and create. They’re your support system. They will help you make your work, show your work, talk about your work, inspire you, and challenge you.” (339)
What’s one thing you’ve done to strengthen your community, both in-person and online?
How could you further strengthen your community?
envision your future self
Imagine a five year reunion with everyone you know today.
Where do you live?
Where do you work?
What kind of art do you make?
Where do you show it?
Who is your audience?
